It was here that the Red Cross on January 8 found four children lying next to their dead mothers and several other corpses, emaciated from several days without food or adequate water.

Relief workers have only just begun to uncover the death and suffering in Gaza City, as they attempt to rescue survivors during a daily ceasefire announced after humanitarian agencies took Israel to task for its non-stop barrage of bombs, missiles, and ground assaults on Gaza.
The three-hour "lull" in fighting is anything but, however, and many besieged residents of Gaza City are choosing to risk hunger rather than venture outside for food, water, and other essentials.
UPA, through an emergency grant to our partner the Palestine Center for Youth Work, is helping by funding rations to 200 families in eastern Gaza City. The rations, which will be distributed by PCYW staff who live in the area, will be purchased locally from suppliers who have agreed to provide the items on credit.
As with our other emergency grants over the last two weeks, UPA funds are providing a guarantee of payment to suppliers once banks in Gaza re-open and cash is allowed back in to the Strip.
The food baskets cost approximately $50 each and contain canned meat and beans, tuna, jam, hummus, milk powder, sugar, and other basic items. Each basket can feed an average family for 10-14 days.
Please help us continue to provide emergency relief to the besieged people of Gaza.
