Through our University Scholarship program, UPA is working with higher education institutions throughout the West Bank and Gaza to sustain that hope for hundreds of Palestinian students—and extend it to hundreds more.
Through our University Scholarship program, we enable hundreds of students to develop the skills they need to help their village, their neighborhood, and their nation, whether through learning about preventable pediatric diseases or studying engineering solutions to alleviate overcrowding.A Proud Tradition
Palestinians have long recognized the importance of education, and this generation of university students is no different.
Despite decades of occupation, universities continue to teach bright, hard-working youth. Despite power cuts and incursions, students find a way to study. And despite increasing transportation costs as they navigate around checkpoints and the Wall, students manage to make it to their classes.
UPA strives to nurture this determination. Through our University Scholarship program, we enable hundreds of students to develop the skills they need to help their village, their neighborhood, and their nation, whether through learning about preventable pediatric diseases or studying engineering solutions to alleviate overcrowding.
A Smart Investment
Not surprisingly, demand for scholarships has soared in recent years, as Palestinian families struggle to balance their immediate needs against long-term investments like a college education. To help meet this demand, UPA draws upon the generous support of our monthly pledgers and other one-time contributors, funding more than 200 scholarships in the current academic year alone.
Now we are turning to you for additional help. Please consider making a monthly pledge to UPA to help us sustain and grow our University Scholarship program. As little as $50 a month can help us fund a young Palestinian's education for an entire academic year.
A monthly pledge or one-time contribution can also help us invest in the vital network of Palestinian universities, which are facing a shortage of teaching materials, technology, and money to pay salaries. Last year, for example, your contributions helped us ship more than $600,000 worth of textbooks to Palestinian universities.
You can also support Palestinian universities by helping us recruit qualified professors to teach in the West Bank and Gaza. For more information on this recruitment effort regarding an urgent need at a prominent University in the West Bank, please contact UPA supporter Amin Shafie. He is looking for qualified faculty in the fields of Nursing and Optometry.
