Family Relief
UPA, September 29, 2005 UPA provides family relief to help poor families who have lost their homes due to shelling or have lost their main breadwinner due to job loss, illness, injury, or disability.
UPA works with reputable local welfare organizations to identify and assist families in need. Families are from Hebron, Beit Jala, East Jerusalem, and Gaza — all areas suffering high unemployment rates along with frequent closures and military incursions. UPA provides this relief through local reputable non-profits and through its community development initiatives. A letter came from the head of a Beit Jala household, whose home was destroyed by an Israeli tank shell. He writes: "Me and my family send you our appreciation and thanks, wishing that you will visit us after we return to our homes that were badly damaged and destroyed by the Israelis. We were given a one-month notice to leave the rented house because the authorities that should pay the rent didn't; they promised to do so when we had to leave our home after the shelling. My family and I are facing bad conditions, so any possible help is much appreciated." UPA's aid goes directly towards shelter, food, clothing, and medicine. Although a modest amount, it can make a crucial difference for a single family. Consider the difference it has made for a family from the town of Beit Jala. As the father recently wrote in a letter: "As I have told you before, I have seven children, five boys and two girls. And for five years, I have not worked. And as you know, Israel does not let us work in Israeli areas, and I couldn't work in Beit Jala because I cannot see very well as I have a problem with my eyes. All of my children are in school, and life is very, very difficult in this times. We live in our home, as you know, without electricity because I couldn't pay ten thousands for the company to bring electricity to our home. I am a very poor man." You can make a big difference in the life of entire families with a small commitment. Help UPA help other families today. |
