Invest in Jobs & Keep the Palestinian Embroidery Trade Alive!
UPA, November 7, 2006
They learn traditional embroidery as well as other trades, and are then placed in community workshops or businesses, or in Atfaluna’s Craft Production Unit. In addition, more than 150 needy women work from their homes doing embroidery or other assembly work and help to supplement their family income. With every purchase made, UPA’s contributors help Gazans help themselves economically, while keeping their unique Palestinian heritage alive. The intricate, colorful designs and symbolic patterns of UPA’s hand-embroidered products reflect traditional Palestinian life and the heritage of the pre-1948 villages. Embroidered items hold great value for Palestinian families, and are the physical relics often used to relate family history from one generation to the next. You too can help keep this uniquely Palestinian artwork alive by purchasing hand-embroidered items -- while providing jobs and much-needed hope for hundreds of crafts workers living in very difficult circumstances.
